Following the car blast near Red Fort Metro Station, Delhi Metro operations came under heightened security on Tuesday, with increased checks and surveillance across the network. Special focus was given to busy interchange stations, reflecting the immediate impact of the high-alert situation.
Enhanced Security Measures Across Metro Network
Security agencies directed intensified inspections across all metro stations, particularly at Chandni Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, and Hauz Khas—key hubs with heavy passenger traffic. Both uniformed personnel and plainclothes officers monitored crowds closely, ensuring thorough screening of every commuter before granting entry.
The enhanced security checks caused delays at several stations, even during non-peak hours. For instance, long queues were observed at Anand Vihar Metro Station around 1 p.m., as commuters underwent manual and machine-based inspections. Security personnel also kept a watch on passengers waiting in external lines. At Rajiv Chowk, a dog squad was deployed, while additional officers were stationed at Anand Vihar to manage crowds coming from the nearby railway station.
Red Fort Metro Station Remains Closed
Red Fort Metro Station remained completely shut on Tuesday, with all four entry gates blocked from the morning. Delhi Metro officials confirmed that trains passed through the station without stopping. Commuters heading to Red Fort were advised to disembark at Jama Masjid Metro Station instead. Following the blast, gates 1 and 4 had already been closed on Monday as a precautionary measure to avoid panic, with the station falling under investigative scrutiny.
Authorities continue to maintain high vigilance across the metro network to prevent any further security threats and ensure commuter safety.
