Delhi Crime Branch Nab Fugitive Nitesh Dahiya in POCSO and Murder Case After a Year-Long Hunt

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Crime Branch has re-arrested Nitesh Dahiya, a fugitive wanted in a murder and POCSO case, from Sonipat. Dahiya faces charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of a minor girl, and had been on the run since being granted bail last year.

Fugitive Since Bail

The case dates back to 2017, when Nitesh Dahiya and his associates were accused of abducting and killing a man who was in love with his friend’s sister. While initially arrested, Dahiya went absconding after securing bail in November of the previous year.

Police Hunt and Raids

Crime Branch officials revealed that multiple raids were conducted at potential hideouts over the past year. On 4 November, police received credible information about Dahiya’s presence in Sonipat. Acting swiftly, a team laid a trap to capture him early Tuesday morning.

Dramatic Capture

Attempting to evade arrest, Dahiya reportedly jumped over rooftops of nearly a dozen houses in a colony and tried to escape on foot. After a brief chase, the police successfully apprehended him.

Declared Fugitive in 2024

The 2024 interim bail period had expired, and the court declared Dahiya a fugitive. Apart from the murder case, he is also accused in multiple other serious offenses. In one case filed in Kanjhawala, Dahiya allegedly kidnapped a minor girl and married her. He had been arrested earlier but released on bail. Additionally, a non-bailable warrant remains active against him in a separate criminal breach of trust case in Gurgaon.

Delhi Police’s relentless efforts over the past year finally brought the dangerous fugitive back into custody, highlighting their commitment to ensuring justice and public safety.
