New Delhi: In a major boost to Delhi’s public healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that 187 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will become fully operational across the capital by next month. The initiative aims to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for every resident of Delhi, aligning with the principles of “Time to Care” and the goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Addressing the media, CM Gupta stated that the Delhi government will no longer operate its health centers in rented premises, as the administration now has adequate space to establish Arogya Mandirs across the city. “As of now, treatment has already started in 168 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and by December, all 187 centers will be inaugurated,” she said.
Healthcare Closer to Every Home
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government’s prime objective is to provide comprehensive medical care close to people’s homes, reducing the need for citizens to frequently visit hospitals.
“These Arogya Mandirs are being developed under the Ayushman Bharat Program, which includes transforming sub-health centers, primary health centers, and urban primary health centers into robust, modern healthcare facilities,” she explained. “This initiative will ensure timely medical treatment and reduce unnecessary referrals.”
From Mohalla Clinics to Modern Health Mandirs
Highlighting the difference from the previous system, CM Gupta noted that earlier Mohalla Clinics had limited medical services and lacked adequate infrastructure, which restricted their expansion.
“In contrast, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are equipped with modern technology and broader healthcare facilities. This is not just an expansion of health services — it is a transformation of Delhi’s healthcare culture,” she said. “Our goal is to not only deliver healthcare but also build public trust and a new culture of wellness among citizens.”
Pharmacist Recruitment Drive from November 12
To support the operation of these new centers, the government has announced the recruitment of pharmacists through a walk-in interview process from November 12 to November 21 (excluding weekends and public holidays).
Interviews will be conducted across all ten districts — Central, East, West, South, North, Shahdara, North-East, South-West, North-West, and South-East — under their respective District Health Committees. Each day, a maximum of 150 candidates will be interviewed.
Notably, pharmacists previously terminated from Mohalla Clinics will also be eligible to apply.
With the upcoming launch of all 187 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Delhi’s health system is set for a major transformation, aiming to bring primary care, preventive health, and public trust together under one comprehensive model of “Healthy Delhi for All.”
