Delhi Metro Mega Plan to Benefit 2.5 Lakh Commuters, Central Secretariat Station to Become Triple Interchange

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to implement a major infrastructure upgrade that will directly benefit 2.5 lakh commuters in the capital. As part of Phase-5(A), the Central Secretariat Metro Station will be transformed into a triple interchange hub, connecting the Yellow, Violet, and Magenta lines.

Currently, the Central Secretariat station serves as a key interchange between the Yellow and Violet lines, facilitating daily travel for thousands of government employees working in central Delhi offices. With Phase-5(A) approval, the station will also integrate the Magenta Line, extended from Ramkrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha under the Central Vista Corridor Project, linking all government buildings along Kartavya Path to the metro network.

Direct Benefits for Commuters and Employees
This expansion will significantly ease daily commutes for government staff and visitors in Lutyens’ Delhi, providing seamless connectivity across major administrative hubs. Meanwhile, DMRC is also undertaking escalator repairs at several Blue Line stations, including Akshardham, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Mayur Vihar Extension, New Ashok Nagar, and Noida Sectors 15, 16, and 18, which will remain temporarily out of service.

Phase-5: Transforming Delhi Metro Connectivity
The Phase-5 plan envisions 18 new metro corridors across Delhi-NCR, aimed at providing every resident access to a metro station within 400–500 meters. The network is being designed for interconnected lines, ensuring efficient travel between any two points in the city. The first three primary corridors of Phase-5 have already received government approval, and work is underway to secure approval for the remaining 18 corridors.

According to DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal, the upgrade represents a strategic step toward a fully integrated, commuter-friendly metro network, set to improve convenience, reduce travel time, and cater to the growing urban mobility needs of Delhi’s population.
