Delhi MCD Councillors to Receive ₹2 Crore Annual Budget for Local Development

In a significant move to boost local development, all Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillors will now receive an annual budget of ₹2 crore for their respective wards. The funds will be disbursed in four quarterly installments.

Details of the Budget
The announcement was made during a special house meeting on Wednesday by Standing Committee Chairman Satya Sharma, who presented the revised budget estimates for 2025-26 and the budget proposals for 2026-27. Each councillor will now have a dedicated annual fund of ₹2 crore, a substantial increase from the previous allocation of ₹25-40 lakh per year.

Purpose of the Funds
Councillors can utilize the budget for a wide range of development activities, including:

  • Repair and construction of roads, lanes, and culverts
  • Installation and maintenance of streetlights and high-mast lighting
  • Beautification of parks, playgrounds, and public spaces
  • Plantation drives, playground equipment, and boundary walls
  • Maintenance of MCD schools, toilets, drinking water facilities, community centers, and libraries
  • Upgradation of MCD dispensaries, waiting sheds, and office furniture

A data entry operator will also be provided to each councillor to ensure smooth management of the funds. Additionally, the mayor’s fund will be increased from ₹12 crore to ₹15 crore, and the Standing Committee Chairman’s fund will rise from ₹10 crore to ₹15 crore.

Councillors Welcome the Move
Senior councillor Yogesh Verma noted that the new allocation would help expedite long-pending projects such as repairing broken roads and culverts, which previously required prolonged delays. The initiative is expected to significantly improve infrastructure and public amenities across Delhi wards.
