Delhi: Man Shot Dead in Aya Nagar Amid Rising Tensions

New Delhi: The quiet of Sunday morning in Aya Nagar was shattered by the sound of gunfire as masked assailants in a car murdered 55-year-old Ratan Lohia, who was on his way to a local dairy. The incident, reportedly stemming from a long-standing family feud, has triggered tension in the area, prompting police to heighten security.

Details of the Shooting
According to DCP Ankit Chauhan, police received a distress call at around 6:25 AM reporting shots fired in the Aya Nagar area. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ratan’s lifeless body riddled with bullets. The attackers reportedly fired 60–70 rounds before fleeing the scene.

Sources indicate that this murder is connected to a previous killing six months ago at CDR Chowk, Chhatarpur, where Ratan’s son Deepak, currently in jail, allegedly shot dead Arun, the son of a local resident Ramveer. The feud between the two families has been ongoing for two years, largely related to property disputes.

Background of the Dispute
According to family members, Ratan and his family had been living in a climate of fear for the past two years. Deepak had been beaten and threatened repeatedly during ongoing court proceedings, escalating tensions between the families. Ratan’s wife, Kamlesh Lohia, said the family was living under constant threat, and her husband was murdered while performing his routine morning chores.

Ratan’s brother, Ramkumar Lohia, added that the murder was pre-planned, noting that the attackers had likely conducted reconnaissance prior to the attack.

Police Action
Following the incident, police teams have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Six teams have been formed to track down the suspects, while forensic and crime units are collecting evidence at the scene. Authorities are treating the case as a revenge-motivated targeted killing linked to the earlier Arun murder.
