New Delhi: In a shocking road rage incident near Mukherjee Nagar, North-West Delhi, a lawyer practicing at Delhi High Court was allegedly attacked and beaten with sticks by a group of five to six men, police said on Sunday. Both the lawyer and his companion sustained injuries and are reported to be in shock. Authorities have begun examining CCTV footage and are searching for the accused.
Road Rage Escalates
The victim, a 29-year-old resident of Noida Extension, told police that the confrontation began on a narrow lane when his car was stopped by a black Thar vehicle. According to the lawyer, the Thar blocked his car completely, and after waiting for nearly five minutes, he managed to maneuver his vehicle to the side. The Thar driver then allegedly verbally abused him.
“When I stepped out of my car to protest, the driver threatened my life. I told him I would call the police. He then rolled up his car windows, made a phone call, drove a short distance, and resumed abusing me,” the victim told police.
Attack with Sticks
As a crowd gathered, the lawyer’s friend arrived at the scene, and the two were heading back to their car to call the police. It was at this point that the Thar driver returned with his five to six accomplices, all reportedly carrying sticks. According to the FIR, “They suddenly attacked us from behind, striking our heads multiple times with sticks with intent to kill.” Both victims sustained head injuries in the assault.
Medical Attention and Police Action
A PCR van rushed to the scene, and the victims were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for treatment. A senior police officer stated that a team was dispatched to record the victims’ statements at the hospital, but due to pain and shock, they were initially unable to provide a full account. The complainant later visited Mukherjee Nagar Police Station on January 26 to formally record his statement.
Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongfully restraining), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. The police have formed a team to examine CCTV footage and are actively searching for the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing.
