Surat: The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, one of India’s largest infrastructure projects, is nearing completion, with travel time between the two major cities set to reduce from 24 hours to just 12 hours. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently shared key updates during an inspection of the Gujarat stretch of the expressway.
Final Touches on Key Section
Gadkari stated that construction on the 379 km Vadodara-Mumbai section is in its final stage and is expected to be completed by the end of next year. This stretch is a critical link connecting the full 1,359 km expressway through Virar, providing seamless connectivity across the route.
Officials said the expressway is being built as an 8-lane modern highway using state-of-the-art technology to ensure a smooth, safe, and comfortable journey for travelers. Gadkari emphasized that minor issues are being resolved meticulously to guarantee the best possible experience.
Enhanced Connectivity & Tourism Boost
Once completed, the expressway will also connect Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, offering direct access to Delhi and Mumbai from these states. Gadkari envisioned the route supporting electric buses and trucks in the future, boosting sustainable travel.
The project also includes extensive green initiatives, with large-scale tree plantations planned along both sides of the expressway to enhance environmental sustainability.
A Transformative Infrastructure Project
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, whose foundation was laid in 2019, will halve travel time between India’s political and financial capitals, offering faster, safer, and more efficient transit. This megaproject is expected to not only reduce journey times but also significantly boost tourism, trade, and regional connectivity.
With the Vadodara-Mumbai section entering its final phase, India is one step closer to a revolutionary highway network connecting key economic and cultural hubs.
