Delhi: Jamia Millia Associate Professor Booked for Alleged Caste-Based Abuse; Police Deny Conversion Claims

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have registered a case against an Associate Professor at Jamia Millia Islamia under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following allegations of caste-based verbal abuse and assault. The university has dismissed the assault claims, while police have rejected social media claims of forced religious conversion.

According to police, the complaint was filed by Ramphool Meena, a Graduate Education Officer in the university’s Polytechnic Department. Meena alleged that on 13 January, Associate Professor Riazuddin of the Civil Engineering Department used abusive language and behaved violently toward him at his desk.

Police stated that the case was registered at Jamia Nagar police station under Section 3(I)(r) of the SC/ST Act 1989 and Section 115(2) of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation is underway. Statements are being recorded and evidence collected.

University Statement:
Jamia Millia Islamia said the video circulating on social media was manipulated and bore no relation to any alleged assault. The university confirmed that no formal complaint regarding assault or caste-based misconduct has been received from the employee involved.

Police Clarification:
Authorities clarified that there are no allegations of religious conversion in this case. The police urged media and the public not to spread unverified information that could harm communal harmony.
