New Delhi: Shocking revelations have emerged during the investigation into the recent protest against pollution at India Gate. Police have seized 23 mobile phones from participants, which have now been sent for forensic examination.
According to police sources, the protest that escalated into a law-and-order situation on Sunday evening was not spontaneous. Evidence suggests that a special group was formed a week earlier to organize and plan the demonstration. Additionally, the FIR filed at the Kartavyapath police station includes provisions under Section 197 of the BNS Act.
Investigation Details
Police statements indicate that the protest had specific coordination. Videos surfaced showing slogans in support of Maoist commander Madvi Hidma, prompting 12–15 people to counter-protest near India Gate on Tuesday with banners, emphasizing that national security should not be compromised under the guise of protests.
Authorities confirmed that intelligence had indicated that organizations like AISA and JNUSU were planning a demonstration under the banner of the Delhi Coordination Committee for Clean Air. FIRs were registered at two separate police stations, including the Kartavyapath station, based on the statement of Constable Ishant, citing charges such as assault and obstruction of official duties.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of planning and involvement, with forensic analysis of the phones expected to provide crucial leads.
