New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has stepped up preparations to adorn the city’s parks and green spaces with a vibrant mix of native and exotic flowers this spring. Special precautions are being taken to protect the flowers, particularly tulips, from animals and theft by planting them in protective nets.
Tulips and Flowering Duration:
Tulip theft has been a recurring issue in the capital. To address this, tulips will be grown in secure nets. Under favorable weather, tulip bulbs usually bloom for 10 to 20 days. According to DDA, the Horticulture Department has been instructed to ensure the city’s green spaces display a colorful spring bloom.
Diverse Colors and Locations:
Tulips of five to six different colors will be planted across Dwarka’s green spaces and various DDA parks, including parks along the Yamuna river. Flower arrangements will be rotated periodically, and a Flower Festival is planned in February or March at two to three parks. Dwarka has seen a significant tulip plantation drive by DDA over the past two years, though incidents of animal damage and theft have increased during this period.
