Delhi: Elevated Road Planned Across Yamuna to Ease Traffic Congestion

The Delhi Government is planning to construct an elevated road from Bihari Colony in East Delhi to Telco T-Point over Drain No. 1, aiming to relieve severe traffic congestion on Swami Dayanand Marg.

Government Officials Inspect the Site
Recently, Delhi’s PWD Minister Parvesh Verma and Arvinder Singh Lovely, Chairman of the Yamuna Vihar Development Board, conducted an inspection of the drain to finalize plans for the elevated road.

Millions to Benefit from Reduced Traffic
The elevated road is expected to significantly ease traffic for residents of the surrounding four assembly constituencies and for the millions who commute daily via Swami Dayanand Marg (Swarn Cinema Road). Chronic traffic jams in the area are largely attributed to the numerous closely spaced traffic signals along the route.

Critical Traffic Bottlenecks
The Azad Nagar traffic signal often causes severe jams, forcing vehicles and two-wheelers to wait for long durations. Even after crossing Azad Nagar, traffic slows down at Swarn Cinema signal, followed by bottlenecks at Vishwas Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Jagatpuri, Madhu Vihar, and IP Extension near Utsav Ground. Currently, it takes commuters 35–40 minutes to travel from Bihari Colony to Telco T-Point.

Public Efforts Highlighted
Local resident Vijay Sharma of Krishna Nagar revealed that he had been advocating for the construction of the elevated road for several years. He wrote multiple letters to central minister Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Pradesh President Virendra Sachdeva, LG V.K. Saxena, CM Rekha Gupta, and Arvinder Singh Lovely to address traffic congestion on Swami Dayanand Marg. He expressed satisfaction that the government has finally taken action to implement the project.
