New Delhi: The death toll in the Red Fort bomb blast has risen to 11. Forensic analysis has now confirmed that three body parts recovered from the scene belong to terrorist Dr. Umar. DNA matching with a sample from his mother confirmed the identity. The body of Dr. Umar remains in the mortuary and has not yet been claimed by his family for the funeral.
Victim Count and Identification Process
Earlier, the identities of nine victims—including Ashok Kumar, Pankaj Saini, Mohsin Malik, Noman Ansari, Dinesh Kumar Mishra, Lokesh Agrawal, Aman Kataria, Jumma, and Lukman—were confirmed. Subsequently, Bilal and Vinay Pathak succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total number of fatalities to 11. Three remaining body parts in the mortuary have now been verified as Dr. Umar’s by forensic experts.
DNA Confirmation from Mother’s Blood Sample
Sources from Maulana Azad Medical College confirmed that the DNA of the three body parts was matched against a blood sample from Dr. Umar’s mother to establish identity. Despite confirmation, the body remains in the mortuary as relatives have not arrived to perform the last rites.
Advanced DNA Technology Enables Fast Results
During a recent event, Dr. Sudhir Gupta, HOD of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS, stated that modern technology has significantly expedited DNA profiling. Whether using blood or saliva samples, DNA reports can now be prepared within 24 hours. He clarified that although Dr. Umar’s DNA test was not conducted at AIIMS, expert guidance was provided. Meanwhile, injured victims Ankush and Sameer continue to receive treatment at LNJP Hospital.
