Delhi Blast Probe Reveals Multiple Planned Attacks, Parliament Targeted

New Delhi: Investigations into the Red Fort blast on the evening of November 10 have unveiled a far-reaching terror plan. The attackers had targeted the VVIP area of Delhi, including a potential strike on the Parliament during its upcoming winter session. The module’s plot involved 38 vehicles across the country, with links traced to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

High-Level Planning and Reconnaissance

According to sources, the main conspirator, Dr. Umar, traveled to Mewat, Haryana, the night before the blast. CCTV footage shows him passing through a toll plaza at 1:36 AM with an explosives-laden vehicle. Arrested suspects, Dr. Mujammil and Dr. Adil, revealed that the module had conducted reconnaissance of the Parliament and Constitution Club, aiming for an attack during the winter session scheduled from December 1 to 19.

Nationwide Vehicle-Based Bomb Plot

The network had planned simultaneous blasts using 38 vehicles, including Hyundai 120, red Ford EcoSport, and Maruti Brezza cars. Cars were being prepared in cities such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mumbai. So far, several vehicles have been seized, with investigations ongoing for older vehicles in use by the module. In Delhi, seven locations were identified as potential blast sites, and explosives were being stockpiled at multiple locations.

Fertilizer-Based Explosive Manufacturing

Special Cell and other agencies conducted raids across Mewat, identifying local suppliers who sold fertilizers used for ammonium nitrate production. Surveillance was conducted in crowded markets to track illicit purchases.

Links to Aligarh Muslim University

The probe has extended from Faridabad to Delhi, Hapur, Mewat, and Aligarh, where three AMU students were allegedly in contact with Dr. Umar and Dr. Mujammil. Authorities are investigating the extent of their involvement. Dr. Umar self-detonated in a suicide attack, while the remaining suspects are cooperating with investigators.

Coordinated Arrests and Network Disruption

Intelligence inputs from Jammu & Kashmir Police indicated that several module members had already been identified following arrests since October 21. Dr. Mujammil and Dr. Adil were apprehended on November 9, prompting Dr. Umar to attempt hiding explosives-laden vehicles, eventually leading to the blast near Red Fort.

Decoding the Terror Blueprint

Authorities recovered diaries and notepads from Dr. Umar and Dr. Mujammil, containing coded entries detailing plans from November 8 to 12. Investigators believe these notebooks hold critical information about the network and the operational blueprint of the attacks. Substantial quantities of explosives, assault rifles, pistols, and ammunition were also seized from Dr. Mujammil’s rented apartment, just 200 meters from AMU.

The ongoing probe involves coordinated raids across Delhi, Faridabad, Mewat, Hapur, Devband, and Aligarh, with teams in Lucknow and Kanpur searching for additional suspects. The revelations highlight the sophistication of the module and its long-term planning, aimed at destabilizing the national capital and targeting India’s legislative institutions.
