Who Are Tania Parveen, Syed Idris, and Sabir Ahmed Now Under NIA Scanner?**
Kolkata: The investigation into the car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort has expanded to West Bengal, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) questioning three individuals lodged in separate jails across the state. All three are suspected to have links with terror organisations and have been detained under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The NIA has now taken custody of the trio for detailed interrogation.
Sabir Ahmed: Nadia Resident Already in Jail for a Drug Case
One of the detained individuals, Sabir Ahmed, hails from Palashipara in Nadia district. He is currently lodged in Kolkata’s Presidency Jail in connection with a narcotics case. His brother, Faizal Ahmed, was recently detained by the Special Task Force (STF) for questioning regarding alleged ties to a terror network.
Officials believe Sabir may hold crucial information about the activities and connections of his brother, which has led the NIA to intensify questioning.
**Who Is Tania Parveen?
LeT Handler Linked to Multiple International WhatsApp Groups**
Arrested in March 2020, Tania Parveen is considered one of the most significant Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) handlers operating in India. A former student of Kolkata’s Maulana Azad College, she was found to be part of 20 WhatsApp groups based in Iran, Iraq, and Tunisia, and used a Pakistani number to connect with foreign handlers.
Initially arrested by West Bengal’s STF, she was later taken into NIA custody. Now lodged in Alipore Women’s Correctional Home, Parveen allegedly worked under the guidance of Saida Azhar, sister of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar and head of the group’s women’s wing. Parveen is believed to have played a key role in the online radicalisation and recruitment of youth for terror outfits.
Syed Idris a.k.a. Munna: LeT Agent Who Ran Sleeper Cell Recruitment
Another key figure, Syed Idris, arrested in 2020, is lodged in Dum Dum Central Jail. Idris allegedly worked as an agent for LeT and used numerous social media platforms to radicalise young individuals and recruit them into sleeper cells.
He was reportedly connected to multiple online groups operated by Pakistan-based handlers and was involved in raising funds for jihadist activities. Given the renewed terror concerns after the Red Fort blast, his role is again under close scrutiny.
NIA Tightens Grip on Sabir’s Network
Following the interrogation of Sabir Ahmed, NIA teams raided his native village, Naldaha in Palashipara, and detained his brother Faizal. Though overt online propaganda for LeT and JeM has declined in recent years, intelligence officers believe the trio may still have deep connections with active terror modules operating in India.
Investigators are also exploring whether they have any link to the 10 November Red Fort car blast.
Hawala Trail: Jaish-E-Mohammed Sent Money to Suspects
The Delhi blast case, now fully handed over to the NIA, has revealed another major angle. According to sources, suspected terrorists received funds via hawala channels from JeM handlers.
During the interrogation of Muzammil, arrested following the Faridabad terror module bust, it emerged that two doctors received ₹20 lakh, allegedly routed through hawala from a JeM operative. The agency is currently verifying this claim with additional evidence.
Investigators are also probing whether slain terrorist Umar, who died in the car explosion, received similar financial support.
Red Fort Blast: 12 Killed, Several Injured
On 10 November, a powerful explosion shook the area near Delhi’s Red Fort after a car detonated amid heavy traffic. At least 12 people were killed, and several others injured. The central government has termed it a terror attack, prompting an extensive nationwide investigation.
