Delhi Blast Near Red Fort: Will It Be Considered an Act of War?

New Delhi: The investigation is underway into the explosion that occurred near the historic Red Fort in Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed that all possible angles and aspects of the incident are being thoroughly examined.

The key question now arises — if this blast turns out to be a terrorist attack, will it be treated as an Act of War under India’s current policy framework?

The Background: What Is an Act of War?

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, a decisive military response that destroyed several terrorist bases. During this operation, the Indian government made a significant policy shift — declaring that any future terrorist attack on Indian soil would be treated as an Act of War and responded to accordingly.

This decision marked a new chapter in India’s counterterrorism doctrine.

“This Is the New Normal,” Says PM Modi

Reiterating India’s firm stance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, referred to the Pahalgam attack and the success of Operation Sindoor. He said India has now established a “New Normal” — where terrorism and those supporting it will no longer be viewed separately.

PM Modi emphasized, “If our enemies continue to provoke us, our forces will respond on our own terms, at our chosen time, and with our chosen objectives. India has suffered from terrorism for decades, but now we have redefined the rules.”

Operation Sindoor Not Over Yet: Rajnath Singh

During a parliamentary session, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh clarified that Operation Sindoor has been paused, not terminated.
He warned that if Pakistan or any hostile entity attempts any “misadventure” in the future, the operation will resume with full force.

Fact Check: Viral Photo of Delhi Blast Is Fake

A picture showing heavy black smoke and claiming to be from the Delhi blast has gone viral on social media. However, India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check Unit has confirmed that the image is fake.

PIB clarified that the viral image is not from Delhi, but from a 2024 explosion in Lebanon. The same photo was used in reports by MTV Lebanon, showing the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s Dahiya district.

In its official post, PIB stated:

“Some propaganda accounts are circulating an old image claiming it is from the Delhi blast. This claim is false. The image is from the 2024 Lebanon explosion.”

10 Dead in the Delhi Explosion

The blast took place near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, killing 10 people and injuring several others. The explosion triggered panic among commuters and bystanders in the area.
At the time of the incident, many people were returning home from offices or shopping in the nearby markets.

Authorities have cordoned off the area, and forensic teams are conducting a detailed examination of the blast site.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Special Cell are jointly probing the matter to determine whether it was an accidental explosion or a planned terror strike.

India’s Stand Remains Clear

If the investigation confirms the blast as a terror attack, it will invoke India’s new national security policy — treating such attacks as acts of war rather than isolated incidents.
Under this doctrine, India reserves the right to respond with military precision and strategic retaliation.

As the nation awaits the findings, one thing is certain — India’s “New Normal” against terrorism has already been set in motion.
