Authorities investigating the Delhi car blast have arrested Dr. Mohammad Arif, a senior resident doctor at LPS Institute of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Kanpur, for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy. Dr. Arif, who shared a rented flat with Dr. Abhishek, has been brought to Delhi by investigative agencies for further questioning.
Dr. Arif and Dr. Shaheen, another doctor with ties to Kanpur, were reportedly in contact on the day of the blast. According to sources, the connection between the two doctors is now a crucial lead in the ongoing investigation.
The UP ATS team conducted a raid at Dr. Arif’s flat in Ashok Nagar, Kanpur, seizing laptops and mobile devices for forensic examination. The flat, owned by a local landlord Kanhaiyalal, is one of six properties he owns, two occupied by his family and four rented out. Dr. Abhishek had been renting one of these flats for ₹27,000 per month, and roughly a month ago, Dr. Arif moved in as his roommate.
Kanhaiyalal revealed that Dr. Arif kept to himself and rarely interacted with neighbors. “He would leave on an Ola bike around 10 a.m. and return in the evening. Most of the time, he stayed inside the flat,” he said.
The authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to track all visitors to the apartment. Dr. Arif’s transfer to Delhi marks a significant development, as he is expected to face other suspects and provide critical information regarding the blast.
Following the exposure of alleged terrorist links involving Dr. Shaheen from GSVM Medical College and Dr. Arif, ATS teams have also confiscated their official documents from the college for investigation.
This arrest sheds new light on the network behind the Delhi blast, with investigators hoping the seized laptop may reveal pivotal details that could unravel the conspiracy.
