New Delhi: Delhi continues to grapple with severe air pollution, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) remaining in the “very poor” category for the 15th consecutive day. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an AQI of 338 at 7 AM on Saturday, a slight improvement from Friday’s 385, but still indicative of unhealthy air conditions for the city’s residents. The 24-hour average AQI on Friday stood at 369, reflecting persistently high pollution levels throughout November.
Pollution Adds to Winter Concerns
Experts warn that air quality is unlikely to improve significantly in the coming week, as weather conditions are inhibiting the dispersion of pollutants. Stagnant air is causing smoke and dust to linger near the ground, leaving residents with little relief. Meteorologists and air quality agencies predict that these conditions may persist for the entire week.
Air Quality Readings Across Delhi
CPCB monitoring data on Saturday morning revealed extremely poor AQI levels across most areas, including:
- Anand Vihar: 354
- Ashok Vihar: 347
- Bawana: 364
- Burari: 347
- Chandni Chowk: 351
- Dwarka Sector 8: 368
- ITO: 343
- Patparganj: 341
- Punjabi Bagh: 355
- Rohini: 364
- Vivek Vihar: 358
Some locations recorded slightly better readings in the “poor” category, offering minor relief: IGI Airport (295), Dilshad Garden (272), Mandir Marg (251), and NSIT Dwarka (252). Nearby NCR cities also reported high pollution levels, including Noida (344), Ghaziabad (333), Faridabad (207), and Gurugram (293).
Daily Trends
Throughout the week, daily average AQI readings in Delhi have consistently remained in the “very poor” range: Monday (382), Tuesday (352), Wednesday (327), Thursday (377), and Friday (369).
Weather Outlook
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Saturday is expected to witness foggy conditions, with a maximum temperature around 26°C and a minimum near 11°C.
