Dehradun: In a major breakthrough under ‘Operation Kalnemi’, Dehradun police and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) have arrested Bangladeshi national Mamun Hasan (28), also known as Sachin Chauhan, along with his accomplice Reena Chauhan, a resident of Tyuni, for using fake identities and illegally residing in India. The incident has sent shockwaves due to its extraordinary circumstances. Reena Chauhan reportedly gave her ex-husband’s identity to her Bangladeshi partner, enabling him to settle illegally in Dehradun.
SSP Ajay Singh stated that the operation aims to crack down on individuals residing in the state with forged documents and fake identities. Police received information about a Bangladeshi man living illegally in the Nehru Colony area with a local woman.
Facebook Connection and Illegal Entry
During interrogation, Mamun Hasan revealed that he met Reena Chauhan via Facebook. He had visited India multiple times on tourist visas in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and in 2022, the couple crossed the India-Bangladesh border illegally. They got married in Bangladesh and returned to India unlawfully, settling in Dehradun.
Creation of Fake Documents
Shocking details emerged that Reena Chauhan used her ex-husband Sachin Chauhan’s name and address to create fake Aadhaar, PAN, and other government documents for Mamun. Using these fraudulent documents, Mamun had been employed for years as a bouncer at a Dehradun club. Police are investigating other individuals who may have assisted in producing these fake documents.
Arrest at Alaknanda Enclave
Acting on inputs, police conducted a raid at Alaknanda Enclave, arresting both suspects. Seized items included fake Aadhaar and PAN cards, other identity documents, and digital/physical materials used to produce counterfeit documents.
Strict Enforcement Under Operation Kalnemi
SSP Ajay Singh confirmed that the operation will continue with strict verification checks, targeting illegally residing individuals. Mamun Hasan’s activities were closely monitored, revealing that he relied on multiple collaborators for creating fake identities. Authorities are now identifying and taking legal action against all accomplices.
The police investigation is also focusing on potential organized networks involved in human trafficking or settling foreign nationals in India illegally, with major disclosures expected in the coming days.
