Dehradun: In a major breakthrough, Uttarakhand Police arrested two alleged shooters involved in the sensational murder of gas agency owner Arjun Sharma within 24 hours of the crime. The accused were caught after separate police encounters in different parts of Dehradun, during which both sustained injuries.
Arjun Sharma, a well-known gas agency operator, was the son of martyr Colonel R.C. Sharma, who laid down his life in the line of duty in 1986. Sharma was shot dead in broad daylight, triggering panic and outrage across the city.
According to police officials, the first encounter took place in the Ladpur forest area under Raipur police station limits, while the second operation was carried out in a dilapidated factory in the Lal Tappar region. Both suspects were later admitted to hospital for treatment.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh confirmed that illegal firearms and the scooter used in the crime were recovered from the accused.
Police Suspect Contract Killing
Police believe the murder was carried out by hired shooters. Investigators stated that the assailants had conducted detailed surveillance before executing the attack.
As per preliminary findings, Arjun Sharma had stepped out to buy fruits and was walking towards his vehicle when the attackers, who were lying in wait, opened fire and fled the scene.
Officials are now investigating whether the killing was part of a larger conspiracy.
Wife Alleges Murder Plot Linked to Property and Financial Dispute
Arjun Sharma’s wife, Abhilasha Sharma, has made serious allegations, claiming that the murder was planned due to an ongoing property and business dispute within the family.
Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case against Arjun’s mother Beena Sharma, her acquaintance Vinod Uniyal, his wife Sangeeta Uniyal, and Dr Ajay Khanna, who is associated with SK Memorial Hospital and also serves as the state president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
Abhilasha alleged that Beena Sharma had financial dealings worth crores with the accused individuals and that Arjun had strongly objected to these transactions. The dispute between mother and son had reportedly escalated to the court.
Dispute Allegedly Involves ₹42 Crore Loan
Police investigations have also revealed that the conflict may be linked to a massive financial dispute involving nearly ₹42 crore.
A gas agency employee, Vijay, stated that Vinod Uniyal had allegedly threatened Arjun Sharma in the past. He also claimed that Beena Sharma shared close ties with the Uniyal couple and had allegedly given them large sums of money, which often led to heated arguments between Arjun and his mother.
Employees further revealed that a day before the murder, Beena Sharma visited the agency and inquired about Arjun’s daily routine and where he went for morning activities — raising further suspicion.
Martyr Colonel’s Legacy at the Centre of Family Conflict
Arjun Sharma, a resident of Indira Nagar, managed the Amardeep Gas Agency located on GMS Road. The agency was originally allotted to his mother Beena Sharma after the martyrdom of Colonel R.C. Sharma in 1986.
Over the years, Arjun Sharma took charge of its operations. However, the property and business rights over the agency allegedly became a major source of conflict between the mother and son, eventually turning into a bitter legal battle.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have stated that further questioning of the arrested shooters is underway and more arrests may follow as investigators attempt to uncover the full conspiracy behind the murder.
The case has sent shockwaves across Dehradun, as citizens demand strict action against those involved in what appears to be a planned and professionally executed killing.
