Debt-Stricken Youth Dies by Suicide in Meerut, Records Emotional Videos Before Death

A tragic incident came to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, where a young man allegedly died by suicide after being burdened by mounting debt. Before taking the extreme step, the victim recorded three videos narrating his financial distress and helplessness.

The incident occurred in the Civil Lines police station area on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Govind, a resident of Yadgarpur, who worked as a plumber.

According to police officials, Govind was found hanging from the ceiling with a muffler tied around his neck. His brother, Gaurav, stated that he went to wake Govind in the morning but found him hanging in the room. Family members immediately rushed in and brought the body down, following which the police were informed.

During the investigation, police recovered three video clips from Govind’s mobile phone, recorded shortly before his death. In the videos, he reportedly spoke about severe financial pressure, stating that he had taken loans from several people and had even mortgaged his wife’s jewellery in an attempt to repay the debts.

“I have nothing left now,” he said in the video, expressing despair over his inability to overcome the financial crisis.

SP City officials confirmed that the matter is under investigation and the videos are being examined as part of the probe.

Family members revealed that Govind was married five years ago to Tanu, and the couple has three young children. His death has left the family shattered, with relatives demanding support and justice.

The incident once again highlights the growing impact of financial stress on individuals and the urgent need for awareness, counselling, and support systems for those facing economic hardship.

Police said further legal action will be taken after completing the investigation.
