New Delhi: The six-storey zonal office of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at Madhuban Chowk, Rohini, has been flagged for serious fire safety lapses. Following an inspection, the Fire Department has refused to issue the No Objection Certificate (NOC), warning that the building is completely unsafe until deficiencies are addressed.
Inspection Reveals Multiple Shortcomings
During a routine fire safety inspection, the Deputy Chief Fire Officer identified several critical safety issues in the building. The DDA had applied for a fire NOC through its Assistant Engineer, but the fire team found that the building lacked essential fire escape routes and safety measures.
The Deputy Chief Fire Officer clearly stated that the NOC cannot be granted until all identified shortcomings are rectified. The department has informed DDA officials that the responsibility for fire safety will remain with them until full compliance is achieved.
Details of Fire Safety Audit
According to officials from the DDA zonal office at Madhuban Chowk, the fire safety inspection was conducted on 6 November, with DDA’s Executive Engineer present during the process. Eight major points of non-compliance were highlighted by the fire team.
NOC Cancellation Notice Issued
On 14 November, the Fire Department issued a formal letter to the DDA Executive Engineer, cancelling the NOC. The notice specified that until the eight identified issues are fully resolved, the building remains unsafe for occupancy, and any incidents arising will be the responsibility of DDA officials.
