Dausa Dogs Foil Leopard Attack, Wild Predator Flees After Encounter

Dausa, Jan 31: In a dramatic turn of events in Naharkhohra village of Rajasthan’s Dausa district, a leopard attempting to attack a dog in a household courtyard was forced to flee after being confronted by other dogs. The incident, which occurred Friday night, has left villagers both amazed and anxious about wildlife in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, the leopard entered the home of Bhartalal Meena around 8:50 pm, scaling the boundary wall to reach the courtyard. The predator initially targeted a dog roaming there, gripping it by the neck in an attempt to make it its prey.

Canine Courage Forces Leopard to Retreat

As the dog struggled, the loud barking attracted two or three other dogs nearby. Seeing the dogs rushing towards it, the leopard released its grip, leapt over the wall, and fled towards the surrounding hills, abandoning its intended prey. Villagers reported that the leopard’s boldness was completely subdued by the coordinated defense from the dogs.

Village Surrounded by Hills, Frequent Leopard Sightings

Naharkhohra village is encircled by hills, making it a known hotspot for leopard movement. Earlier that same day, locals reported seeing a leopard in the nearby hilly area. The nighttime incursion into the populated area has heightened fear among villagers, especially shepherds and livestock caretakers, who now travel in groups to ensure safety.

CCTV Footage Reveals the Incident

The entire event was captured on CCTV, showing the dog being chased and the leopard struggling to secure its grip. The footage also documents the moment when other dogs arrive, prompting the predator to flee. The video has further alarmed local residents, who are increasingly anxious due to the ongoing presence of leopards in the region.

Villagers have pointed out that similar sightings were reported near Lakhanpur village on the surrounding hills just a few days prior, underlining the frequent movement of leopards close to human settlements.

Authorities have advised caution, especially for those managing livestock, and recommended alertness during evening and night hours.
