Faith often begins where the limits of science end. This belief finds a powerful reflection in the extraordinary journey of Devidas, a resident of Amravati, Maharashtra, whose unwavering devotion and paternal love have moved people across states.
Devidas is undertaking an arduous 2,050-kilometre pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi shrine, not on foot, but by rolling on the ground with iron chains bound to his hands and legs—all to fulfil a vow he made when his daughter was fighting for her life.
A Father’s Prayer at a Desperate Hour
Some time ago, Devidas’s daughter suffered a severe electric shock, leaving her in a critical condition. Doctors reportedly expressed little hope for her survival. Faced with despair, the helpless father turned to faith. He prayed to Mata Vaishno Devi, vowing that if his daughter survived, he would reach the holy shrine by rolling on the ground as an act of devotion.
Miraculously, his daughter recovered after undergoing successful plastic surgery and is now leading a normal life. With her life saved, Devidas decided it was time to honour his promise.
A Journey of Pain, Faith and Resolve
Braving biting cold, rough terrain and immense physical pain, Devidas set out from Amravati on his extraordinary pilgrimage. As of now, he has already covered around 850 kilometres and is currently passing through Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh. Nearly 1,200 kilometres of the journey still remain.
He rolls forward for about 12 kilometres each day, stopping wherever he finds a safe place to rest. The entire journey is expected to take around 60 days.
Not Alone on the Road
Devidas is accompanied by a companion who follows him on a bicycle carrying essential supplies, ensuring food, water and basic necessities during the journey. Despite the physical suffering, Devidas remains resolute, driven by gratitude and faith.
A Message Beyond Faith
While this journey is rooted in deep religious belief, it also sends a powerful social message. In a society where daughters are often undervalued, Devidas’s sacrifice stands as a testament to a father’s unconditional love and commitment to his child.
His journey is not just a pilgrimage—it is a moving reminder that a father’s resolve to save his daughter can be stronger than pain, distance, and even fear itself.
