Daughters-in-Law Assault Elderly In-Laws, Steal ₹150; Court Orders FIR in Fatehpur

In a shocking incident from Fatehpur, elderly parents were reportedly assaulted and robbed of ₹150 by their own daughters-in-law. The victims, a 70-year-old disabled man and his wife, were attacked along with two accomplices, prompting the court to order the filing of a criminal case. Police have registered an FIR under robbery and other relevant sections and are investigating the matter.

According to reports, the couple, Gela Kevat and his wife Vidyavati, live alone in their village home. The couple had three sons—Vijay, Uttam, and Dinesh. Uttam and Dinesh passed away after marriage. It is alleged that the widows, Sulekha Devi and Aarti Devi, colluded with local troublemakers and their maternal relatives to harass the elderly couple over property disputes. Frustrated, the couple had reportedly expelled the daughters-in-law from their movable and immovable assets.

The attack occurred on the night of June 26 around 8 PM. The elderly couple was resting under a shed after dinner when the daughters-in-law, along with two unidentified men, barged in. They verbally abused the couple and physically assaulted them with kicks and punches. Vidyavati sustained serious injuries during the attack. The assailants also ransacked the home and snatched ₹150 kept in a bag from the elderly woman. Neighbors reached the scene after hearing the commotion, but the attackers had fled, threatening further harm.

The following day, the injured couple approached the local police station to file a complaint. However, the police allegedly delayed action, citing the need for medical treatment first. Even after receiving treatment, repeated attempts to get the authorities to act were ignored, forcing the couple to seek the intervention of the court.

Thana In-Charge Vinod Kumar confirmed that, following the court’s directive, an FIR has been registered against the two daughters-in-law and two other individuals under relevant sections of the law. Investigations are ongoing.
