The incident, which occurred in June 2025, had sent shockwaves across the region due to the horrifying nature of the crime and the involvement of the victim’s own daughter.
Victim Killed After Catching Daughter in Compromising Situation
According to prosecution records and witness statements, the victim had allegedly caught his daughter Anita Kumari in an objectionable situation with her lover Rambabu Kumar, a resident of Khas Patti under Amnour police station area. The victim reportedly opposed their relationship and repeatedly objected to their conduct.
This opposition allegedly turned him into a target for the duo, leading to the fatal attack.
Son’s Statement Reveals Terrifying Night of the Murder
The deceased’s son, Vikas Kumar, who also served as the informant in the case, gave a chilling account of the incident. He stated that around 1:30 am, he woke up after hearing his father screaming. When he rushed to his father’s room, he allegedly saw his sister holding their father’s hand while Rambabu Kumar repeatedly stabbed him with a sharp weapon.
Vikas further stated that his sister was heard saying that their father had caught them red-handed and must not be left alive. When he tried to intervene, the accused allegedly attacked him as well. His mother and younger sister were also assaulted when they attempted to rescue the victim.
The father succumbed to excessive bleeding and injuries.
Speedy Trial Completed in Eight Months
The case was tried under the speedy trial process, and the hearing was completed within just eight months.
Delivering the judgment, Principal District and Sessions Judge Puneet Kumar Garg convicted Rambabu Kumar and Anita Kumari under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sentenced both to life imprisonment.
The court also ordered a fine of ₹25,000 each. In case of failure to pay the fine, the convicts will have to undergo an additional one year of simple imprisonment.
Demand for Death Penalty, Court Awards Life Term
During sentencing arguments, the victim’s legal counsel termed the crime as “heinous” and demanded the death penalty, stating that such an act could have a severely negative impact on society.
However, the court awarded life imprisonment instead, citing legal provisions and the nature of evidence presented.
Police Investigation Confirmed Motive
Police investigation reportedly revealed that the murder was pre-planned and executed after the father became an obstacle in the illicit relationship. The accused were arrested soon after the incident, and the prosecution presented strong evidence during trial.
The defence counsel, appointed through legal aid services, argued in favour of the accused, but the court found the evidence sufficient to convict both.
Public Reaction: ‘Justice Served’
