Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: A major police operation in Gwalior has uncovered a disturbing truth about two spa centers operating in the city’s posh areas. According to Female DSP Shikha Soni, customers were charged ₹1,600 per massage, while the girls performing the work received only ₹500.
Police Raid Reveals Exploitation
The raid targeted SS Ayurved Spa Center and Black Pearl Spa Center, both located in the City Center area under University Police Station jurisdiction. The operation exposed the use of spa facilities as a front for sex work. During the raid, police caught several men and women in compromising situations and seized a large amount of objectionable material. In total, seven women, two managers, and two customers were taken into custody.
Girls Exploited via Social Media
Investigations revealed that the girls, mostly from poor backgrounds, were contacted through Instagram and other social media platforms. They were lured to the centers under the pretense of providing massages, only to be forced into sexual activities. The managers handled customer bookings and collected payments.
Financial Exploitation Detailed
DSP Shikha Soni explained that the centers charged ₹1,600 per massage. Of this, ₹500 was paid to the girl, while the remaining ₹1,100 went to the spa operators. This arrangement highlighted the severe financial exploitation faced by the girls.
Unregistered and Operating Illegally
Further investigation revealed that the spa centers were unregistered. The girls caught during the raid hailed from Delhi, Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, and Tikamgarh. All were recruited online and coerced into sex work under the guise of providing massages. Police are continuing the investigation, and further action will be taken based on ongoing findings.
Widespread Issue in Gwalior
Authorities noted that such operations are prevalent across multiple areas in Gwalior. While raids temporarily halt these illegal activities, new centers often emerge in different neighborhoods, making it a recurring challenge for law enforcement.
