Passengers at Darbhanga Airport were left stranded in the air once again due to limited infrastructure at the facility. The airport currently has space to accommodate only two aircraft on its apron. On Friday, when four flights arrived simultaneously, there was no room for additional aircraft, forcing an Indigo flight from Hyderabad to be diverted to Varanasi.
Apron Capacity Limits Lead to Flight Diversion
Darbhanga Airport’s apron can hold just two planes at a time. On Friday, the weather was clear, and an Indigo flight from Hyderabad attempted to land. However, with two aircraft already occupying the apron, the airport could not grant landing permission. The flight had to circle in the air while waiting for a landing slot, along with three other aircraft also hovering above the airport.
Passengers Diverted to Varanasi
Due to the shortage of parking space, the Hyderabad-bound flight was diverted to Varanasi. It was later brought back to Darbhanga from Varanasi. The Indigo flight carrying 146 passengers left Varanasi at 4:46 PM and reached Darbhanga shortly after. Once the apron space became available, the aircraft was allowed to park and disembark passengers.
Basic Infrastructure Still Lacking
Passengers criticized the airport’s lack of basic facilities, noting that even after five years, Darbhanga Airport has not expanded its apron capacity or infrastructure. Limited space for aircraft, rising flight operations, and inadequate facilities continue to disrupt airport operations repeatedly.
