Dangerous Entry Points at Mundka Metro Station: Open Drains and Potholes Pose Risk to Commuters

The area surrounding Mundka Metro Station on Rohtak Road has fallen into disrepair, creating a hazardous environment for commuters due to open drains, potholes, and waterlogging. Civic neglect has turned the approach to the station into a risky zone, making daily travel a challenge for residents and metro users alike.

Both Entry Gates in Poor Condition

While the station itself is functional, the surroundings tell a different story. Both entry gates are flanked by open drains, large potholes on service lanes, exposed manholes, and slippery mud patches. At Gate No. 2, which is equipped with escalators and stairs for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers, commuters must first navigate a four-foot open manhole filled with water before accessing the lift. Traversing this area safely has become a daily struggle.

Within a 200-meter radius of the station, commuters must carefully dodge hazards around Gates 1, 2, 3, and 4. Motorists and pedestrians alike are at risk while navigating these unsafe stretches.

Risk of Accidents Remains High

Although civic agencies have been attempting to clear waterlogging along Mundka-Rohtak Road, progress has been slow. The construction of new drains is underway, but irregularities and halted work have left several drains open and unsafe, with no protective walls in place. People often pass very close to these open drains on bicycles or scooters. At night, poor visibility further increases the risk of accidents. Residents have resorted to placing wooden planks or temporary steps over the drains to move around, but even a moment’s inattention could result in a fall.

Local residents have repeatedly raised concerns, highlighting the urgent need for the authorities to complete drain construction, ensure safety barriers, and restore the surrounding roads to prevent potential accidents.
