A dramatic and tense situation unfolded at the Tikamgarh Collectorate in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday when a Dalit farmer attempted to take his own life, alleging fraud in a land registration case and prolonged denial of justice. The incident triggered panic among officials, employees, and visitors present at the premises.
According to reports, Chhatta Ahirwar, a resident of Kurrai village, reached the Collectorate along with around 50 villagers to protest against what he described as a fraudulent land deal. The farmer alleged that nearly two years ago, he sold his land to a fellow villager, but was deceived during the process. He claimed that under the pretext of arranging a pension, he was taken to Jatara, where the land was registered without his full knowledge or informed consent.
Allegations of Fraud, Repeated Appeals Ignored
Ahirwar stated that after realizing the alleged fraud, he approached the local police station, tehsil office, and other concerned government departments multiple times seeking redress. However, no concrete action was taken, leaving him frustrated and distressed. Exhausted by repeated visits to government offices and the lack of response, he decided to stage a protest at the Collectorate.
High-Voltage Drama at Collectorate Gate
At the main entrance of the Collectorate, the farmer suddenly attempted to hang himself, creating chaos and alarm across the campus. Sensing the gravity of the situation, senior officials including SDOP Rahul and the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) rushed to the spot. After prolonged counselling and negotiations, the officials managed to dissuade the farmer and bring the situation under control.
Administration Assures Probe
District officials assured the farmer and accompanying villagers that all documents related to the land registration would be thoroughly examined. They stated that if any fraud or procedural irregularity is found, strict action would be taken against the responsible individuals as per law. Following the assurance, the farmer and villagers calmed down, and normalcy was restored at the Collectorate.
Demand for Swift Justice
Villagers have urged the administration to ensure speedy and fair justice for the aggrieved farmer, emphasizing that no citizen should be driven to such extreme steps due to administrative apathy.
The incident has once again highlighted serious concerns over land-related disputes, alleged exploitation of vulnerable farmers, and the urgent need for timely administrative intervention to prevent tragic outcomes.
