Jaipur: Jaipur police have apprehended a cunning land mafia who used police uniforms to evade law enforcement. The accused, Harikrishna Baheti, originally from Jodhpur, was operating a counterfeit currency network alongside his illegal land dealings. He rented a room in Jaipur under the aliases “Gyan Chand” and “Guruji.”
Police Seize Fake Notes, Property Documents, and Official Seals
During a raid on Baheti’s room, police recovered counterfeit currency worth ₹76,000. Additionally, they found 28 property deeds and 34 official department seals bearing names of various officers. Jaipur Commissionerate’s Vidyadhar Nagar police confirmed the seizure, highlighting the scale of Baheti’s criminal operations.
Disguised in Khaki to Fool Authorities
The police also found a khaki uniform with a star, resembling that of an Assistant Sub-Inspector. Interrogation revealed that Baheti wore the uniform occasionally to mislead police officers and display authority. He even wore it while driving outside Jaipur to avoid tolls and scrutiny.
Prior Arrests Linked to the Gang
Additional DCP North, Bajrang Singh Shekhawat, stated that five days earlier, a DST team had arrested another gang member, Vishal Rawat from Bihar, in possession of counterfeit notes worth ₹5,600. During interrogation, Rawat disclosed that the fake currency had been provided to him by Harikrishna Baheti. Police are now investigating the source of the counterfeit currency and the extent of Baheti’s operations.
Baheti’s arrest highlights the lengths to which criminals go to evade law enforcement, including impersonating police officials to continue their illegal activities.
