Crane Collapses at Agra Metro Site, Liquor Shop Damaged; Residents Narrowly Escape

Agra, February 14, 2026: A major accident occurred at the Agra Metro construction site in the Pratappura area on Saturday, when a crane suddenly toppled during excavation work. The collapse caused panic as the crane shaft fell onto a nearby liquor shop and a residential house, damaging property but fortunately causing no injuries.

The crane, approximately 25 feet tall, became unstable after one of its wheels sank into the ground. The shaft then tilted and crashed onto the beer shop belonging to Deviram Halwai and the adjacent home of Prabhukant Nagar, located in Karunanagar. The impact left the shop’s roof severely damaged and caused significant destruction to the front portion of the house, though the family residing in the back narrowly escaped harm.

“The loud crash woke up the family sleeping in the rear portion of the house,” an eyewitness said. “When they rushed outside, they were shocked to see the extent of the damage.”

Police and metro officials arrived promptly at the scene, cordoning off the area and assessing the situation. Traffic on the affected road has been temporarily halted as safety measures are implemented.

This incident adds to recent concerns about metro construction safety in India, following a similar accident in Mumbai’s Malad area, where a collapsing pillar injured several people.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crane collapse and reviewing safety protocols at the Agra Metro site to prevent such accidents in the future.
