Patna/Delhi: In a significant legal setback for RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Monday formally framed charges against 41 accused, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, and their sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, in the high-profile land-for-job scam. The court’s decision clears the way for the regular trial to commence.
During the proceedings, Judge Vishal Gogne described the case as the work of a “criminal syndicate” and an “organized conspiracy.” The court observed that government jobs were misused as instruments of barter to acquire valuable land and properties.
While Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi were present in court, considering their age and health, the court has granted them exemption from physical appearances, allowing participation via video conferencing.
With the charges framed, the prosecution will now present witnesses and evidence in court. Investigating agencies allege that the conspiracy involved railway officials and close associates, causing severe damage to the integrity of the system.
Apart from the 41 accused facing trial, the court granted relief to 52 others, who were discharged due to lack of evidence or other technical grounds. The legal proceedings will now focus solely on those deemed part of the organized conspiracy.
Key Accused Facing Trial:
- Lalu Prasad Yadav – Former Railway Minister and main accused
- Rabri Devi – Former Chief Minister of Bihar
- Tejashwi Yadav – Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar
- Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav – Daughters of Lalu Yadav
The trial promises to be a closely watched legal battle, with witness testimonies and documentary evidence forming the backbone of the case.
