Coupling Break on Freight Train Near Jaipur Halts 5–6 Trains, Over 10,000 Passengers Affected

Jaipur: A major rail disruption was narrowly avoided in Rajasthan after a freight train near Jaipur split into two due to a coupling failure, affecting multiple trains and leaving over 10,000 passengers stranded. The incident occurred between Dhankya and Kanakpura stations at Hathoj Phatak. Rail traffic was restored after approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.

What Happened

The freight train, traveling from Phulera towards Jaipur, experienced a coupling failure on its fourth wagon, causing the train to divide into two separate sections. While the train came to a stop on its own, backlog trains had to be halted between Dhankya and Kanakpura, leading to significant disruption.

Railway authorities confirmed that approximately nine trains were delayed, with most held at Dhankya station. Jaipur Junction, Gandhinagar, Durgapura, and other stations in Jaipur also experienced heavy passenger congestion due to the disruption.

Passenger Impact

Passengers endured long hours of waiting as rail traffic was suspended. Only around 7:15 PM was one track reopened, allowing the stranded trains to gradually resume their journey. By 8:20 PM, the freight train was cleared, and both tracks were restored to normal operations. Passengers expressed relief once rail services resumed.

Trains Affected

The coupling failure disrupted the schedules of several long-distance trains, including:

  • Bandra Terminus – Shri Ganganagar
  • Ajmer – Agra Fort
  • Jodhpur – Bhopal
  • Jodhpur – Varanasi
  • Ajmer – Jabalpur
  • Sabarmati – Sultanpur
  • Agra Fort – Ajmer
  • Jaipur – Bhopal
  • Gangapur City – Ajmer

Among these, the Bandra Terminus – Shri Ganganagar train was the first to be halted.

Railway officials emphasized that while no major accident occurred, the incident highlights the critical importance of regular maintenance of train couplings to ensure passenger safety and uninterrupted rail operations.
