Lucknow, 29 November 2025: Former Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh has broken his silence following the viral circulation of photos with Amit Kumar Singh, aka Amit Tata, a key supplier arrested in a major illegal codeine-based cough syrup and narcotics trafficking case in Uttar Pradesh. Singh has now demanded a CBI investigation into the matter.

Viral Images Spark Controversy
The Uttar Pradesh STF recently apprehended Amit Tata, described as a close associate of a powerful figure from Eastern UP. Images of Dhananjay Singh with Amit Tata quickly went viral on social media, prompting questions about Singh’s role in the case. The Azad Adhikar Sena, led by Amitabh Thakur, had earlier written to the UP DGP, requesting a probe into the former MP’s involvement.

Dhananjay Singh’s Statement
On Saturday, Singh posted a detailed statement on his X account. He stated:
“I am aware that some of my political opponents have spread misleading information regarding the cough syrup issue. Since this matter is connected to Varanasi (Kashi), leaders from Congress and other parties have allegedly leveled false accusations to tarnish Prime Minister Modi’s image. The state government is conducting a thorough investigation through multiple agencies to ensure the truth comes to light.”

He further added:
“This is an inter-state issue. I request PM Modi and CM Yogi to direct a CBI investigation so strict action can be taken against the guilty, and false rumors and baseless allegations are stopped. I am also writing letters to the PM and CM to expose those spreading misleading news and tarnishing the state government’s image.”

Background: Amitabh Thakur’s Letter to DGP
Amitabh Thakur, national president of Azad Adhikar Sena, had earlier written to the UP DGP asking for a probe into Dhananjay Singh’s involvement. Thakur indicated that Amit Tata’s operations in Jaunpur may have had connections with Singh, and the former MP’s role in the case is now under scrutiny.
