Gwalior: Protests have erupted in Gwalior following controversial remarks made by IAS officer Santosh Verma regarding Brahmin women. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other organizations have strongly condemned his statements and submitted an application at Murar police station, demanding that an FIR be registered against him. The police have taken the matter under investigation.
A video of Verma’s statement, made during a meeting organized by AZAXS at Dr. Ambedkar Maidan in Bhopal, has gone viral on social media. In the video, Verma, who is also Joint Secretary in the Department of Agriculture, reportedly said that the demand for reservation will continue “until a Brahmin gives his daughter in marriage to my son,” implying that social progress is incomplete without such personal alliances.
Reacting strongly, VHP leader Anil Mishra, along with his colleagues, staged a demonstration outside Murar police station and submitted a memorandum to CSP Atul Soni. The memorandum demanded immediate legal action against Verma, warning that failure to register a case promptly would lead to a larger, more intense public agitation.
Mishra emphasized that the retired IAS officer’s remarks were inappropriate and offensive, targeting community sentiments. CSP Soni confirmed that officials have received complaints from representatives of the Brahmin community. “The statements, captured on video, are under investigation, and all legal action, as per the law, will follow once the inquiry is complete,” he said.
The incident has sparked outrage across social media and local communities, with calls for swift action against the officer to prevent escalation.
