Congress MLA Rohit Bohra Faces Allegations of Obscene Gesture in Rajasthan Assembly; Speaker Promises Action

JAIPUR: Tensions flared in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly after a video surfaced showing Congress MLA Rohit Bohra allegedly making an obscene gesture during the Zero Hour on Thursday. The controversy spilled over to Friday, with demands for strict action against the legislator. Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devanani stated that the video would be thoroughly reviewed before any formal action is taken.

Speaker to Review Video
Addressing the Assembly, Speaker Devanani termed the issue “serious” and emphasized that the conduct of elected representatives is under public scrutiny. “An MLA is elected by lakhs of voters, and with that comes a significant responsibility. The video will be examined carefully, and if the behavior displayed is found inconsistent with the dignity of the House, action will be taken as per the rules,” he said. He stressed that every member must uphold the Assembly’s decorum.

Opposition Demands Strict Action
BJP MLA Shrichand Kriplani raised the matter in the House, demanding stern action against Rohit Bohra. “Such behavior is unacceptable. The MLA should apologize, and appropriate action should follow,” he stated. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel supported the demand, saying that any conduct not in line with the Assembly’s dignity should be dealt with strictly.

Congress Opposes Immediate Action
Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party Whip Rafik Khan opposed the call for immediate punitive measures. He pointed out that similar incidents in the past were resolved through internal discussions. “The matter should be handled amicably as before. The MLA was seated at the time of the incident,” he added.

The final decision now rests with the Speaker, who will determine the course of action after reviewing the video.
