Jaipur: A fresh spell of biting cold has gripped Rajasthan after the withdrawal of a western disturbance, allowing icy northern winds to sweep across the state. The sudden shift has triggered what residents are calling a “second phase” of winter, with temperatures dropping sharply in several districts.
Nagaur emerged as the coldest location in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 5.5°C, while parts of the Shekhawati region slipped into single-digit readings.
Sharp fall in night temperatures
Cities including Jaipur, Sikar and Churu experienced intense cold conditions on Tuesday. Meteorological data shows a drop of up to 4°C in minimum temperatures due to persistent northern winds. Sikar, Pali and Fatehpur also reported lows hovering between 5°C and 6°C.
The cold has been compounded by weak daytime sunshine, preventing temperatures from recovering significantly.
Cloud cover and fog reduce visibility
Over the past 24 hours, intermittent cloud cover was observed in northwestern districts such as Jodhpur, Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar. Morning fog and haze affected visibility in divisions including Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur. Reduced sunlight led to a noticeable chill during the day as well.
Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 24.3°C, forcing many residents to continue wearing winter clothing even in the afternoon.
Forecast for the coming days
According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, weather conditions are expected to remain largely clear over the next two to three days. However, dense fog may persist in parts of northern Rajasthan. Cold winds are likely to keep mornings and evenings chilly.
While no major temperature fluctuations are forecast, the prevailing cold conditions are expected to continue for the time being.
