Raipur: Chhattisgarh continues to reel under an intense cold wave as temperatures plunge sharply across several districts. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no relief expected for the next three days, after which a slight rise in temperature may be recorded.
Unusual November Chill After Many Years
The northern and central parts of the state are the worst affected. Districts like Balodabazar, Pendra, and Ambikapur are experiencing severe cold, forcing people to rely on bonfires to stay warm.
IMD officials noted that such extreme cold in November has been recorded after many years. Typically, winter sets in gradually during this month, but this year, temperatures have dropped abruptly.
Durg Coldest in Plains; Raipur Records Rare Dip
In the plains, Durg has emerged as the coldest city with the night temperature dipping to 10.2°C, nearly 7 degrees below normal.
Raipur has also witnessed an unusual chill. The capital recorded 13°C, marking the second coldest November night in nine years. IMD stated that cold north-westerly winds are intensifying the winter chill across the region.
Ambikapur Freezes at 7°C
In the past 24 hours, Durg recorded the highest maximum temperature at 30.8°C.
The lowest temperature, 7°C, was recorded in Ambikapur, where the Sarguja region is facing a severe cold wave.
Today’s Weather: Clear but Bitterly Cold
The weather across Chhattisgarh will remain dry and clear today, 15 November.
No rainfall is expected in any part of the state, including Raipur, where the sky will remain clear but the chill will persist.
Cold Wave Alert for Multiple Districts
IMD has issued a cold wave alert for isolated areas in the following districts:
- Gaurela–Pendra–Marwahi
- Kabirdham
- Mungeli
- Khairagarh–Chhuikhadan–Gandai
- Rajnandgaon
