Budaun, February 2:
A bizarre and widely discussed incident has emerged from Sahasapur village in Bilsi tehsil of Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district, where a cobra entered a woman’s house and remained there for several hours, triggering panic, curiosity, and intense debate among villagers.
The incident occurred around 11 am on Sunday, when a cobra was spotted inside the house of Gudiya, wife of Alisen. According to residents, the snake settled in a corner of a room with its hood raised and did not move for hours, despite heavy human presence and noise.
Woman Claims Cobra Responded to Her Gestures
Amid the gathering crowd, Gudiya made a startling claim, stating that the cobra—referred to by locals as ‘Nagraj’—was responding to her gestures.
She alleged that when she approached the snake, it moved its hood, and when she asked it to remain calm, it did not show aggression. She further claimed that when asked to drink milk, the snake gestured in refusal by moving its hood.
These claims quickly spread beyond the village, drawing people from nearby areas to witness the scene.
Crowd Gathers, Offerings Made
As word spread, large crowds assembled at the house throughout the day. Some people were seen offering milk and placing currency notes near the snake, while others viewed the incident as a matter of faith or a miracle.
At the same time, several villagers described the episode as superstition, sparking debate within the community.
Local resident Ram Sevak claimed that despite the crowd and commotion, the cobra remained stationary and appeared unperturbed. He echoed the woman’s assertion that the snake was “responding” to her.
Snake Remained Till Late Evening
According to villagers, the cobra remained inside the house till late Sunday evening, continuing to sit coiled at the same spot with its hood raised. The unusual sight became the center of discussion across the village and nearby areas, with many comparing it to a scene from a film.
No Official Confirmation
There was no immediate confirmation from forest or wildlife officials regarding the snake’s behavior or whether it was later rescued. Wildlife experts generally caution against approaching snakes or attributing human-like behavior to them, stressing that such situations can be dangerous.
Faith, Fear and Folklore
The incident has highlighted the intersection of fear, faith, folklore, and lack of awareness surrounding wildlife encounters in rural areas. While some residents viewed the episode as extraordinary, others urged caution and scientific understanding.
