Gorakhpur: Geeta Press, the century-old spiritual publishing institution located on Reti Road, is set to expand its operations on a much larger scale. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the allocation of 10 acres of land in the GIDA (Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority) region to Geeta Press, fulfilling a long-standing request of the management. The formal allotment is scheduled for 29 November, with the blueprint for the new site already finalized.
Demand for Books Surges; Space Falls Short
For more than 100 years, Geeta Press has remained one of the world’s most renowned publishers of spiritual literature. Every year, the press prints over 3 crore religious books in multiple Indian languages.
However, in recent years, the demand for Geeta Press publications has surged sharply. Despite installing modern printing machines and increasing production capacity, the limited land available at the Reti Road complex has become a major obstacle.
The management had been requesting additional land from the government for several years to cope with rising production needs.
CM Yogi Takes Action
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally took note of the issue, and the government has now decided to allocate 10 acres of land in the GIDA area under the Geeta Press development plan.
This move is expected to significantly boost the institution’s publishing capabilities and support its mission of distributing affordable spiritual literature worldwide.
Management Welcomes the Decision
Lal Mani Tiwari, Manager of Geeta Press, expressed gratitude and relief:
“There is no doubt that the demand for our books has increased tremendously. We have tried our best to enhance printing capacity with modern technology, but due to space limitations, production still falls short of actual demand. We are thankful to Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji for approving 10 acres of land in GIDA for our expansion.”
He further added that the new land will allow the installation of advanced printing infrastructure and state-of-the-art machines.
“The existing press will continue operating as usual, but the new premises will help us bridge the current 15% production gap. With additional land, both quality and quantity of publication will increase,” he said.
A Century-Old Institution Ready for Modern Expansion
Geeta Press currently prints approximately 10,000 books daily and over 3 crore annually, yet demand still exceeds supply.
The allotment of new land marks a major milestone, enabling the historic institution to expand its legacy with modern technology while continuing to serve millions of readers worldwide.
