
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday attended the 12th International PlastIndia 2026 exhibition, conference, and convention at Bharat Mandapam. Speaking at the global platform, she shared a clear roadmap for the industrial development of Delhi. The CM visited various stalls at the exhibition, observing innovations in plastic manufacturing, recycling, and the circular economy.
The event at Bharat Mandapam was attended by over 80 countries’ representatives, leading entrepreneurs, PlastIndia Foundation Chairman Ravish Kamat, National Executive Council (NEC) Chairman of PlastIndia 2026 Alok Tibrewal, and Delhi Municipal Corporation leader Pravesh Vahi, among others.
Delhi Government Taking Progressive Steps
Emphasizing Delhi’s development as a global city and robust business hub, CM Gupta highlighted the government’s proactive measures to empower industry and entrepreneurship. To strengthen the MSME sector, the Delhi government is offering collateral-free loans of up to ₹10 crore, providing financial support to small businesses without the need for guarantees.
Ambitious Targets Set by the Government
The Chief Minister announced a target to establish 5,000 new startups in Delhi, particularly promoting innovation and sustainable solutions in the plastic industry. She added that policies are being simplified to improve the ‘Ease of Doing Business,’ aiming to position Delhi not only as a consumption hub but also as a trading and distribution center.
CM Gupta also highlighted the challenge of plastic waste management in Delhi and stressed the need for collaborative efforts using modern recycling and waste management technologies. She shared that India’s plastic industry was valued at approximately $44 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach $47 billion in 2026, potentially growing to $64 billion by 2030. The sector provides employment to millions, and India accounts for about 6% of global plastic consumption, ranking third after China and the USA.
Responsible Development and Sustainability
Recalling PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat mission, the CM emphasized that while plastic manufacturing is a key business, responsible development must remain the guiding vision. Improper disposal and recycling of plastic could have severe environmental consequences. She added that achieving a developed India by 2047 will require not only economic progress but also a shift in mindset and behavior.
MSMEs and ‘Vocal for Local’ in Focus
CM Gupta praised the plastic industry’s contribution to MSMEs and the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. She highlighted the sector’s critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing PPE kits, medical supplies, and essential packaging, serving both national and global needs. The industry has the potential to make India a reliable global sourcing hub.

PlastIndia 2026 began on 5th February 2026 and will continue until 10th February. Organized with support from the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Ministry of MSME, the exhibition is among the largest in the world. Based on the theme ‘India Next,’ the event promotes self-reliant and developed India through manufacturing, employment generation, and a strong industrial base. Over 2,000 international exhibitors are showcasing machinery, raw materials, advanced technologies, and circular economy solutions. Notably, PlastIndia 2026 is being held as a zero-waste exhibition for the first time, ensuring recycling and reuse of all waste generated.
