Clash During Ravidas Procession in Roorkee Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured

Roorkee, Uttarakhand: A violent clash erupted between two groups during the Ravidas Jayanti procession in Roorkee, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others. The incident, which involved firing and stone-pelting, occurred during the community feast organized after the procession.

According to reports, the clash took place in the Bhagwanpur area of Binarasi village on Sunday. What began as a verbal altercation between two groups of youths escalated quickly, with both sides resorting to gunfire. Anand (28) of Binarasi was shot in the chest and died on the spot. Following this, another individual, Mangeram (45), was reportedly beaten to death by an enraged mob. Three others—Vikas, Gagan, and Yogendra—sustained injuries from stray bullets and were admitted to the civil hospital.

The incident sparked widespread tension in the village, with residents damaging property and attempting arson. Police rushed to the scene and detained several individuals to restore order. Post-mortems of the deceased have been conducted, and the administration has urged people to maintain peace.

SP Dehat, Shekhar Chandra Suyal, confirmed that a strong police presence has been deployed in the area, and a detailed investigation is underway. Authorities are looking into the old enmity between the groups as a possible cause of the violent outbreak.

The procession, which started in Bhagwanpur and concluded at the local temple, was attended by a large crowd. The violence broke out around 5 PM during the community feast held near the temple premises.
