Chittorgarh Tragedy: Teen Dies After Snake Bite While Shooting Reel, Music Played On as Crowd Watched

Chittorgarh: A tragic incident highlighting the deadly consequences of superstition and risky social media trends has come to light from Rolheda village in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district, where a minor boy lost his life after being bitten by a highly venomous snake while shooting a reel.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday when a common krait snake, one of the most poisonous species, emerged inside the house of Laxman Jat, a dairy farmer. His son Mohit, a Class 11 student, picked up the snake and, following a local religious tradition known as Dev Aagman, began moving towards a deity’s shrine. During this procession, loud DJ music was playing, villagers were dancing, and the boy was recording a reel for social media.

Snake Bit Him Repeatedly, Event Continued

While walking amid the crowd and music, the snake bit Mohit several times on his hand. Shockingly, despite visible bite marks and bleeding, the event continued and no immediate medical help was sought. Soon, Mohit’s condition started deteriorating.

Instead of rushing him to a hospital, the family first took him to a local faith healer (Bhopa) in Rolheda, where rituals and prayers were performed. As his condition failed to improve, he was taken to another village, Barodia, for further religious treatment. During this delay, the venom continued to spread throughout his body.

Critical Delay Proved Fatal

When Mohit’s health worsened severely, he was finally shifted from Chanderiya to Chittorgarh and then to Udaipur for medical treatment. Doctors in Udaipur placed him on a ventilator, but by then it was too late. Mohit died late Saturday night during treatment. His post-mortem was conducted in Udaipur, after which the body was handed over to the family.

Officials Warn About Deadly Venom

Bhagwati Lal, Project Range Officer, Begun, confirmed that the snake involved was a common krait, which releases neurotoxic venom. “Its bite may show mild symptoms initially, but without timely medical intervention, it can be fatal,” he said.

Disturbing Trend of Risky Reels

A video related to the incident has surfaced, clearly showing snake bite marks and bleeding on the boy’s hand. The case has sparked widespread concern in the region. Experts and locals alike are alarmed by a growing trend in which youngsters, without any knowledge of snake species or risks, handle wild snakes to create viral content for social media.

The incident has plunged the village into mourning and serves as a grim reminder of how the pursuit of views, combined with blind faith and delayed medical care, can cost a precious life.
