Chitrakoot Treasury Scam: Pensioner Sushila Devi Arrested, ₹1.84 Crore Recovered

Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh:
In a major development in the ₹43.13 crore Chitrakoot Treasury Scam, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested pensioner Sushila Devi from Darsenda. Following her arrest on Wednesday, she was presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.

Investigators revealed that ₹1.84 crore of suspicious funds were found in her bank account. The police had been conducting a detailed examination of this account over the past month. With Sushila Devi’s arrest, the total number of accused sent to jail in connection with the treasury scam has now reached 34.

Modus Operandi and Network

The SIT investigation uncovered that the scam involved collusion between departmental officials and staff, allowing illegal transactions of government funds into the bank accounts of pensioners and their relatives. Accounts of deceased pensioners were revived to facilitate unauthorized fund transfers.

Further inquiry revealed that the fraudulent network extended to Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Banda, and Prayagraj, where intermediaries purchased assets using misappropriated government funds.

Investigation Intensifies; More Arrests Likely

SIT Chief CO City Arvind Kumar confirmed that Sushila Devi was arrested with the assistance of Rajapur police and sent to jail. Over the past three days, two other individuals, including a pensioner and an intermediary, have also been detained, signaling an acceleration in the investigation.

Sources indicate that the SIT has prepared a list of 12 more pensioners and intermediaries who are expected to be arrested in the next four to five days. Interrogations have already yielded crucial information, helping authorities uncover deeper layers of the scam.

Police have stated that action will continue until the entire fraudulent network is dismantled, underscoring the seriousness with which the investigation is being conducted.
