Chinese Manja Sparks Panic in Lucknow: Pedestrians and Bikers Injured, Five Incidents Reported in Four Days

Lucknow: The menace of banned Chinese manja (kite thread) has once again created fear in Lucknow, as several commuters were injured in separate incidents over the weekend. In the last four days, the city has witnessed five manja-related accidents, leaving bikers and pedestrians seriously wounded and raising fresh concerns over public safety and illegal sale of sharp kite strings.

Four People Injured in Two Days

According to reports, at least four bike riders suffered severe injuries on Saturday and Sunday after coming in contact with sharp Chinese manja in different parts of the city. Many victims sustained deep cuts on the nose, eyes, forehead, and face.

One of the victims, Vimlesh Tiwari, a resident of Balaganj and office secretary of the Yahiyaganj Udyog Vyapar Mandal, was returning home from work on Saturday evening. Around 5:30 PM near Kudiyaghat, a sharp manja suddenly came in front of his bike, causing deep cuts near his nose and eye.

He was rushed to a hospital in Tahseen Ganj with the help of passers-by, where doctors reportedly applied four stitches on his nose.

Blinkit Employee and Businessman Also Hurt

On Sunday afternoon, another incident occurred in the Thakurganj area, where a Blinkit employee named Guddu was injured while riding a motorcycle. The sharp manja cut his nose, leaving him bleeding heavily. He was taken to a nearby clinic with the help of local residents.

In another case, businessman Mukesh Verma, along with his wife Monika, was injured near the Naka Flyover after the manja struck him close to the eye. Both were rushed to the hospital by passers-by.

Student Suffers 8-Inch Deep Cut

A shocking incident was reported involving a Class 12 student, Aqib, a resident of Phoolbagh. On Saturday evening, while he was travelling towards Aminabad, he came under the impact of Chinese manja near Hewett Road, Bengali Club.

The manja caused an approximately eight-inch-long cut from his forehead to his eyebrow, leaving him badly injured. He was immediately taken to the hospital.

Traders Demand Strict Action Against Illegal Sale

Following the rise in accidents, Amarnath Mishra, President of Yahiyaganj Udyog Vyapar Mandal, urged the administration to take strict action against the sale of banned Chinese manja and metal-coated sharp threads.

He appealed to citizens to use only cotton kite string and avoid flying kites near busy roads. He also demanded strict monitoring of Chinese manja being sold through online platforms.

Five Accidents in Four Days, One Death Reported

Police sources confirmed that Lucknow has recorded five manja-related incidents in the last four days. These include:

  • Mohammad Shoaib (33) killed after his neck was cut at Haiderganj Overbridge
