China-Made Sniper Rifle Attachment Found Near NIA HQ in Jammu & Kashmir; Child Mistakes It for Toy

Jammu, J&K: In a startling discovery near the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in Jammu & Kashmir, a China-made sniper rifle attachment was found, which a young child had picked up, mistaking it for a toy. The item was recovered from a heap of garbage in the Sidra area, which is also in close proximity to the offices of CRPF and SSB.

Child Discovers Weapon Part
According to police, the six-year-old boy found the device while playing near a trash pile on Sunday morning. His family initially did not realize the potential danger. Patrol officers noticed the “toy” and were shocked to identify it as a telescopic attachment commonly used in assault and sniper rifles. Authorities immediately secured the device for investigation.

Investigation Underway
Jammu Rural Police confirmed the recovery and stated that Special Operations Group (SOG) teams are conducting a detailed inquiry into how the equipment reached the area. Additionally, a 24-year-old man from Samba district has been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.

Weapon Attachment Found in Sensitive Zone
The recovered part, marked with Chinese inscriptions, was discovered in a sensitive zone between the NIA headquarters and the Jammu & Kashmir Police security headquarters. Nearby locations also include CRPF and SSB battalion offices, raising serious security concerns.

Separate Security Operations Continue
Authorities are continuing counter-terrorism operations across the region. In another case, a man named Tanveer Ahmed was taken into custody in Samba for alleged links with a Pakistani phone number. Meanwhile, in Udhampur district, security forces conducted a search operation after terrorists allegedly stole food from a village and fled into nearby forests. This operation follows a deadly encounter on 15 December in Soan village, where a police officer was martyred during a clash with JeM terrorists.

Authorities Alert Public
Police have appealed to the public not to panic and urged vigilance. Investigations are ongoing to ensure that sensitive areas remain secure and to prevent such dangerous items from falling into the wrong hands.
