Kharagpur, Chhattisgarh: Security forces in Chhattisgarh achieved a significant victory in the anti-Naxal operations with the surrender of Kamla Sodi, a hardcore female Naxal with a bounty of ₹17 lakh on her head. Kamla decided to abandon violence and return to the mainstream, trekking 12 hours on foot to surrender to the police.
The Surrender
Kamla Sodi, also known as Ungi or Taruna (30), surrendered before SP Lakshya Sharma in the Kharagpur-Chhuikhadan-Gandai (KCG) district. Police officials stated that her decision was influenced by the Chhattisgarh Government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy 2025, which has been yielding positive results in encouraging Naxals to reintegrate into society.
Kamla, a resident of Arlampalli village, Sukma district, had been associated with the Maoist organization since 2011, operating as a hardcore militant. For 14 years, she was actively involved in Naxal activities across Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra (Gondia district), and Madhya Pradesh, including recruitment, propaganda, and planning attacks on security forces.
Bounty and Role
Authorities revealed that Kamla was a senior member of the Maoist’s Mard Division, Bastar MMC Zone (MP-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh tri-junction) and served under MMC Zone in-charge Ramdar’s team. A total bounty of ₹17 lakh was declared on her by the police of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Mainstream Rehabilitation and Benefits
Under the government’s anti-Naxal initiative, Kamla has been immediately granted ₹50,000 as an incentive for surrendering. Additional rehabilitation benefits under the Rehabilitation Policy 2025 are being arranged to facilitate her smooth integration into society.
Critical Intelligence Gathered
During a press briefing, IG Rajnandgaon Abhishek Shandilya disclosed that Kamla walked 12 hours to reach Kharagpur before surrendering. Interrogations revealed several important details regarding Naxal operations, which are currently withheld for security reasons.
This surrender marks a major achievement for Chhattisgarh’s anti-Naxal campaign, highlighting the effectiveness of government rehabilitation policies and the continued efforts of security forces to bring militants back to the mainstream.
