Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: Security forces in the Naxal-affected district of Bijapur have launched a large-scale operation against Maoist insurgents, employing new strategic planning to curb recent spikes in violence. The joint operation involves district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) teams, conducting intensive search operations in forests and hilly areas since early Wednesday morning.
Aerial Reconnaissance and Ground Action
According to police officials, the operation aims to destroy Maoist hideouts, seize weapons, and restrict insurgent activities. The teams are using drones and helicopters for aerial reconnaissance, while also conducting house-to-house inquiries in villages to gather information on any suspicious activities.
Operation Runs Smoothly
A statement from the District Superintendent of Police (SP) said, “Security forces are carrying out coordinated and intensive actions under this operation targeting Maoist activities. Several units are active across the region. So far, the situation is completely under control, and no untoward incidents have been reported.”
Intel-Guided Approach
Forces involved in the operation have been instructed to act on local intelligence inputs. In recent months, Maoists in Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada border areas attempted IED explosions and attacks on police personnel, prompting the security forces to strengthen their strategy.
Appeal to Locals
Villagers reported hearing helicopters from early morning and seeing police vehicles patrolling the surrounding areas. Some schools and Anganwadi centers were closed during the operation to ensure the safety of children. Authorities have urged residents to immediately report any suspicious individuals or objects to the police.
Target: Naxal-Free Chhattisgarh by March 2026
The government has set a March 2026 deadline to make Chhattisgarh free from Naxal influence. With only five months remaining, security forces have intensified their operations across the state to achieve this goal.
