Raipur, Chhattisgarh: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday appealed to Naxals to surrender and rejoin the mainstream, emphasizing that development is possible only in a peaceful state. He made these remarks while attending the Silver Jubilee celebrations in Chhattisgarh.
Ending Naxalism, Paving the Way for Progress
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President said, “We take pride in the fact that Naxalism, which for years obstructed the state’s progress, is now being eradicated. Peace is essential because development cannot happen without it.” He urged Maoists to abandon violence and embrace the mainstream, adding, “I call upon all Naxals to lay down their arms and surrender before the administration.”
Peace in Violence-Affected Areas
Radhakrishnan highlighted that areas previously plagued by violence now enjoy peace thanks to the combined efforts of central security forces, state police, both central and state governments, and local communities. He added, “The elimination of Naxalism is a result of decisive steps taken by the new Chhattisgarh government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Everyone is working together to end this red terror.”
Acknowledging Tribal Communities
The Vice President praised the state’s tribal communities, noting, “Chhattisgarh has shown that a region that respects traditions can advance with confidence while embracing modernity and economic growth. The villages, forests, rivers, and mines of the state tell stories of both struggle and success.” He further lauded the tribal people’s stewardship of natural and cultural heritage, stating, “Their harmony with nature and respect for community life is a lesson for the world, especially in the era of climate change.”
Progress Reflects Trust in Governance
Radhakrishnan also underscored the state’s progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and connectivity, saying, “Roads, railways, and air links have connected even remote areas to national markets. In Naxal-affected Bastar, railway networks are expanding unprecedentedly.” He added, “Progress should not be measured merely by GDP but also by the smiles on people’s faces, their trust in governance, and the hope visible in every child’s eyes.”
